Nurturing Young Minds with NEP 2020 and Holistic Development Chinmaya Vidyalaya, Kunnumpuram, under the Chinmaya Educational, Cultural, and Charitable Trust , Thiruvananthapuram, provides a nurturing environment for children in Pre-KG, LKG, and UKG. Our curriculum is thoughtfully designed in adherence to the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, emphasizing a foundational stage curriculum that promotes holistic development through play-based and activity-oriented learning. This approach focuses on building strong foundational literacy and numeracy skills, while simultaneously nurturing cognitive, social, physical, intellectual, and emotional growth. A unique aspect of Chinmaya Vidyalayas, the Chinmaya Vision Programme, is seamlessly integrated into our curriculum, fostering the gentle blossoming of each child, transforming the Vidyalayas into”School With A Difference”. Our Distinctive Educational Approach We firmly believe that young children learn best through exploration and hands-on experiences. Therefore, our curriculum strongly advocates for play-based and activity-driven learning methods with the backup of digital Classrooms . To ensure a smooth transition for our learners, we utilize Poorna Academia’s Publication “Butter Cups,” a resource meticulously designed to connect with the subsequent preparatory stage. A core objective is to establish a robust foundation in literacy and numeracy, effectively preparing children for more formal learning as they progress. Specialised Programs for Enhanced Learning We’ve curated a special program called ACME – Activities for Children’s Mindful Enhancement, specifically designed to develop essential pre-writing skills. These activities include engaging practices such as clay modeling, drawing, thread work, and vegetable printing, each meticulously crafted to develop specific skills. To cultivate a love for nature and enhance observational and communication skills, children participate in nature walks both within and outside the campus, followed by enriching discussions. We encourage creativity by providing opportunities for children to tell their own stories, sing songs on given themes, and express their imagination through drawing. The walls of all KG classrooms are adorned with images specifically chosen to kindle the aesthetic sense of our young learners. Furthermore, a variety of physical activities are incorporated to develop all muscles, including those often neglected, such as finger muscles. These activities also contribute to activating the brain regions that control them, ensuring a balanced development of all faculties and allowing each child to blossom in their natural areas of interest.
UKG: Building Communication and Lifelong Skills The UKG program is a natural continuation of LKG, with a heightened emphasis on communication skills, particularly basic interpersonal communication. Children develop their listening and speaking abilities through an action-oriented process where they listen to the teacher and respond naturally. We celebrate Colours Day every month, and actively commemorate all Special Days and National Important Days to broaden their understanding of the world. Our KG section is dedicated to fostering independent readers and cultivating a comfort with reading. A dedicated Library Corner provides children with the opportunity to engage with books and develop a love for them. By the time they complete UKG, our students are adept at communicating effectively with both individuals and groups. In collaboration with Karadi Pathways, we ensure our children achieve an impressive mastery of the English language through innovative methods. Our teachers receive efficient training from Karadi Pathways faculty, empowering them to wonderfully aid children in acquiring knowledge in the art of speaking, writing, and comprehending English in a way that keeps them engaged and enthusiastic. For co-curricular enrichment, UKG students (aged 3-5) also have the option to join the Bunny Group, a wing under Scouts and Guides. Expert Guidance and Child Wellness Our highly trained teachers are skilled in fostering living and communication skills, effectively achieving all the aforementioned developmental goals. Recognizing the importance of early intervention, we have a dedicated wellness teacher on staff. This specialist can diagnose potential problems that could later manifest as learning disabilities, enabling early rectification. Counseling is provided to both children and parents, and when necessary, parents are guided to approach relevant specialists for further support.
