Chinmaya Vidyalaya, Kunnumpuram under the Chinmaya educational cultural and charitable Trust offers Pre-KG, LKG and UKG.
In CV Kunnumpuram, we follow NEXT TOTS (an integrated textbook published by The Next Education) under 2 categories, PP1 for LKG & PP2 for UKG. The textbook is designed to develop one hundred and twenty three skills in the three and a half year olds. After the completion of each textbook, there will be assessments thrice in an academic year.
We have also curated a special programme called ACME – Activities for Children’s Mindful Enhancement for developing Pre Writing Skills. The activities include clay modeling, drawing, thread
work, vegetable printing etc, each one designed to develop specific skills. They go for nature walk once in a term, and the discussion that follows develops in them the capability to observe and communicate and a love for nature. They are given opportunity to tell stories of their own; sing songs on given themes and draw pictures to give expression to their imagination. Walls of all KG classes are painted with black board paint up to a height 3.5 feet; the children are free to draw & write in this space. Learning takes place through expression in place of suppression in conventional classrooms. Physical activities are given to develop the muscles including those which we usually neglect, like muscles on fingers. These activities also help in activating the portions of the brain controlling them. Activities are so designed that there is a balanced development of all faculties; the child can blossom later in whichever field he/she has natural interests in.
The programme in UKG is the continuation of what they followed in LKG but there the stress is on communication skill, especially the basic interpersonal communication skills. The children also develop the listening and speaking through action process of list any to the teacher and replying in the most natural way. Every month we celebrate Colours Day. In addition to that we also commemorate all Special days and National Important Days.
In our KG Section, we help them to grow as independent readers and to be more comfortable with reading . A Library corner is enabled which provides them an opportunity to come in to contact with books and to start loving the books. By the time they come out of the UKG they are capable of communicating with other individuals as well as to groups.
In association with Karadi Pathways, we ensure our children to gain an impressive mastery over the English language, in ways never initiated before. We have got our teachers trained efficiently by faculty from Karadi Pathways to aid children wonderfully to acquire knowledge in the art of speaking, writing and comprehending English, in a way they will never get bored of.
Students of UKG (3-5 age groups)can also join Bunny Group,a wing under Scouts and Guides as Co- curricular activity.
The teachers who are well trained in the development of living and communication skills achieve all this.
Children with problems that can later manifest as learning disabilities if detected can be rectified at an early stage. With this in view, a wellness teacher is appointed, who can diagnose the problem and suggest solutions . Counseling is given to the children along with the parents and wherever necessary, parents are directed to approach specialists.
